Kunzite is the pink-to-violet variety of the mineral spodumene, with its beautiful colouring linked to manganese. It was first recognised as a distinct gemstone in California in the early 1900s and was named after mineralogist and gem expert George Frederick Kunz. Today, important Kunzite deposits are found in locations including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Brazil and Madagascar.

Kunzite naturally forms with cleavage, internal fractures, inclusions and colour variations, all of which form part of the individual character of the material.
